What Should My FOURTH Adventure Be?

Alright party people; I know what my first three adventures are going to be…but you won’t find out until I post about them 🙂

However, I want some help choosing my fourth adventure!  This is something I thought I would do to help keep things more random and, well, adventurous!  I will let you decide what I’m going.  Here is a poll of four possible things that I could do.  For the most part, I will follow whatever gets the most votes.  But if someone can leave a very convincing comment as to why I should do one or the other, I may listen.  Out of the possibilities, only two of them may need explanation for people who don’t live in or near the Twin Cities.

Das Boot is a giant boot shaped beer glass.  Generally, the restaurant requires at least four people be present at a table for one to be ordered because there is a sort of unwritten rule that the glass isn’t allowed to touch the table.  Don’t worry, I will surely have a sober cab on the way home.

And Charles Schulz, creator of the Peanuts comic strip, was from St. Paul.  Because of this, there are many statues of the Peanuts characters strewn about the city and suburbs.  I honestly don’t even know how many there are, or where they all are, but I do know that there is a website where I can find out.

Anyway, please vote and let me know!

Not all of the possible answers are terribly exciting.  But I am currently poor and need to save money for adventures, bills, possible road trip, and trying to be my lady’s sugar daddy.  I am failing at that last one.

    Alright, Friends:

I actually regret my efforts the last time I attempted this, having only made it maybe 10 adventures in, and only writing up about 3 of the adventures. They’re on here someplace. So this year, I vow to complete all 52 adventures, will photo and blog, by December 31, 2012.

My list is below, and is mostly centered around the New York area with sidebars to DC, New England, Chicago, and Florida. I’ve posted it here in its entirety because, unless there’s a good reason not to, you are 100% invited to any of these adventures. Friends and strangers alike. Just let me know!

January: Attend Ballet (Copeland at the New York City Ballet with Surkhab; Tickets already purchased)
March: Skydiving (Skydive New Jersey with Amie; Tickets already purchased)
March: Recording session (For Twelfth Night, so let’s call this one invite-only)
April: Cherry Blossom Festival (no dates set, but it’s in Washington, DC – all are invited)

Mark these are some savory selections! I can’t wait to join you New York Neighbor!

Mark! I have wanted to go to the Cherry Blossom Festival in D.C. for some time now (since it’s more likely than attending the one in Japan). I think that may be a fun meet-up, if I’m not broke from the long vacation I’m taking right beforehand!
Great list, lots of ideas. On New Years’ I asked my kids what they want to do in the New Year and my 8 year-old responded quickly, “Sky-diving!” Obviously you and him are more adventurous than me.

      Best of luck! 🙂

When there is nothing left to burn, you have to set yourself on fire

I thought I’d further entice you with toys.

    Namely, this one, the Daruma.

I first experienced this foreboding, eyeless, paper mache, scrap of a thing when I lived in Japan.  Upon first seeing it I was entirely put off.

It’s not conventionally cute, or useful.  In full, it’s simply an etheral, body-less amulet that I would be frightened to chance upon at night.

But there darumas where everywhere, and, although they looked so very Japanese, I surmised that there had to be something more to them.  There was, and I am ever so glad I asked!

    The Last Year and a Half…or so…

As I was compiling my list of adventures that I could take in the coming 52 weeks, I realized that even though I haven’t been doing them regularly or blogging about them, I still have been living a nice life of adventure since my last post in April 2010.  So, a quick recap of the last bit of my life…feel free to use these adventures for yourself in the coming year!

I overcame my fear of horses in late May, 2010:

    I got married August 7th, 2010:

I went skydiving in early October, 2010:

Danimal, what a year! I can’t even begin to imagine what 2012 has in store, but, as I’m imaginative I challenge you to really impress me 🙂

“I Think I’m Quite Ready For Another Adventure.”

    And…I’m back.

A good friend of mine, that I truly don’t talk with enough, has convinced me and several others to have another year full of adventures.  I attempted this on the first go aroundin 2010, and it was bomb.  I will admit that I didn’t complete the full year, which is sad, and kind of obvious due to my last post being in April of that year.

But this past New Year’s Eve, I was looking around on the interwebs for a good quote to post for the new year of 2012 (which I don’t believe will be the last, cause Marty McFly went to the year 2015, and since when has Back to the Future led me astray?).  The quote I found was by one of my favorite bands of all time – Incubus.  ”Kiss your lover’s lips, and know that fate is what you make it of.”

When I first read it, I chose it for the, “Kiss your lover’s lips…” line, cause that’s what you do when the clock strikes midnight.  But then I started thinking about it…this past year wasn’t my best.  I wasn’t the best student at graduate school, probably hurt my friends at times, and I know I for sure had my failures as a husband.

But you know what?  Fate really is just what you make of it.  If there is one thing I learned growing up, it was that I was the best around.  Nothing’s gonna ever keep me down (sweep the leg)!  I need to start believing in that.  And not in a cocky, broseph kind of way.  But in a realistic “Why can’t I achieve what I want if I put my heart and effort into it” kind of a way.

I’m a big believer in gestures; in the feeling, meaning, and spirit behind something often being more important than how the actual events transpire.  And I believe that this kind of a declaration of myself can help me get over that personal hump and start taking steps towards being a more awesome kind of person; the kind I want to be.

Let’s go.  Let’s get it started.  And in the words of  Matrim Cauthon, “Let’s roll the dice.”

This is an exercise in direct mandates

I’m looking at you faithful blog follower.

It’s been sometime since we’ve all congregated to tell tale of events past, present and forthcoming.  I exhausted (see: am exhausted) my year of adventure, but that is no reason to turn down potential trysts.  We just moved.  Into a barn!  I’m learning to hard-core cycle!  I’m getting married.  In a barn!

2012 isn’t a year of barnyard anecdotes, but it is whatever I decide to make of it.  Which is where you come in.

Adventure or not, I implore you to dedicate yourself to something this year, if for anything, for yourself.  As mentioned in the subject heading, this is an exercise in mandate.  I’m trying demanding that you continue to do all that you do.  But, to really spice up 2012, to do it with great gusto and enriched energy.

Be reminded that this board serves as a maleable template.  Not into adventure? No worries!  What about a year of reading, of service, of letter writing, of thanks.  There is so much untapped potential that only YOU can see to.

So, if you’ll be so kind as to indulge and heed my demand and be the best you can be.  I am so excited to see what comes!
